Occupational Therapy

Retreat Allied Health’s Occupational Therapy [ OT ] services aim to empower participants to achieve their goals by emphasizing their abilities, strengths, and interests. Our experienced Occupational Therapists rely on evidence-based interventions and strategies to enhance participants’ functional capacity, independence, and overall quality of life.

Our Occupational Therapy services are designed to be individualised, person-centered, and evidence based. Our team of experienced occupational therapists works collaboratively with participants, families, and support workers to understand their needs, preferences, and goals. We use a range of assessments and interventions to promote participation in daily activities, such as self-care, leisure, and work. We also consider the participant’s physical, social, emotional, and environmental factors that may impact their performance.

Our Occupational Therapy

Services include:

  • Assessment: We conduct a comprehensive assessment of the participant’s skills, abilities, and barriers to participation. This may include assessments of motor skills, sensory processing, cognitive functioning, and environmental factors.
  • Goal setting: We work with participants to identify their goals and develop a plan to achieve them. We consider the participant’s strengths, interests, and values to develop realistic and meaningful goals.
  • Intervention: We provide individualised interventions based on the participant’s needs and goals. This may include skills training, assistive technology, modifications to the environment, and education and support for the participant, family, and support workers.
  • Review: We regularly review the participant’s progress towards their goals and adjust the intervention plan accordingly.

Our services include functional capacity assessments, home modification assessments, assistive technology assessments, sensory processing assessments, and cognitive assessments. Each of these services is designed to help clients reach their full potential and achieve their goals.

  • Functional Capacity Assessments: Functional capacity assessments are comprehensive evaluations that identify a client’s functional capacity and determine their ability to perform daily activities. Our occupational therapists conduct functional capacity assessments to determine the areas of difficulty that need to be addressed in a client’s treatment plan.

During a functional capacity assessment, our occupational therapists will evaluate a client’s physical, cognitive, and emotional abilities. We will also assess the client’s level of independence and ability to perform activities of daily living, such as bathing, dressing, and grooming. Based on the results of the assessment, we will develop a personalised treatment plan that addresses the client’s specific needs and goals.

  • Home Modification Assessments Home modification assessments are designed to ensure that a client’s living environment is safe and accessible. Our occupational therapists conduct home modification assessments to identify any barriers or challenges that may hinder a client’s ability to move around their home independently.

We will evaluate the layout of the home, the accessibility of each room, and any existing modifications or equipment. Based on the results of the assessment, we may recommend modifications or equipment such as grab bars, wheelchair ramps, or stairlifts to improve the client’s safety and independence.

  • Assistive Technology Assessments Assistive technology assessments are evaluations that identify devices or equipment that can assist clients in completing daily activities. Our occupational therapists conduct assistive technology assessments to identify tools or equipment that can help clients overcome barriers and achieve their goals.

During an assistive technology assessment, we will evaluate a client’s current abilities and identify any areas of difficulty. We will then recommend assistive devices or equipment, such as modified utensils, specialised computer software, or communication devices that can help the client achieve greater independence and success in their daily activities.

  • Sensory Processing Assessments: Sensory processing assessments are evaluations that identify any difficulties a client may be experiencing with their sensory system. Our occupational therapists conduct sensory processing assessments to determine how the client’s brain processes sensory input from the environment.

During a sensory processing assessment, we will evaluate how the client responds to various types of sensory input, such as touch, sound, or movement. Based on the results of the assessment, we will develop strategies and techniques to help the client better regulate their sensory input and improve their overall functioning.

  • Cognitive Assessments: Cognitive assessments are evaluations that identify any difficulties a client may be experiencing with memory, attention, problem-solving, or other cognitive skills. Our occupational therapists conduct cognitive assessments to determine how the client’s brain is functioning in these areas.

During a cognitive assessment, we will evaluate the client’s memory, attention, problem-solving, and other cognitive skills. Based on the results of the assessment, we will develop strategies and techniques to help the client improve their cognitive functioning.

At Retreat Allied Health, we are committed to providing high-quality, evidence-based services that meet the unique needs of each client. Our team of occupational therapists are dedicated to helping clients achieve their goals and improve their quality of life.
